I can't sphinn this.

What makes a URL incompatible with Digg? There is some speculation there, but nothing concrete. As it is, this doesn't provide enough information to warrant the 11 sphinns it currently has.

This is excellent for business. It will be absolutely impossible to enforce, but only the people that are smart enough to know that most of those testimonials are fake anyway will know that, while everyone else will think that all the testimonials are legit, since it's illegal to fake them.

SERP page?

Is that from the department of redundancy department?

What's next? SEO optimization?

Voted Noobliminal's comment up. I wish there was a +2 button.

Great. I signed up. If it goes hugely popular, I guess I'll look really cool in a few years with my 3 digit ID.

I don't see how it's competition though. I'll give it some time. But unless the top contributors here start leaving, I can't imagine needing "more".

Why do all these articles read to me like: How to be sociable and make money.

There's nothing new under the sun. Life is about who you know, getting work doubly so, at least until you are a rock star. Are there so many people on the internet that don't have basic social skills that information like this is a revelation?

And the first sentence ends with the wrong "there".

I was slated at first to attend SES but then after learning they are no longer compensating speakers like they have been in the past it made a super easy decision for me.

That would make my choice easy too. Not to mention the -10 degree weather in Chicago in December.

@aimClear

Good post, but I'm more interested in your story. You need to save those headlines.

I'm cautious about it. I'd like to think that I'm not very different online and off, and I've made a concious decision to use my real name, hold nothing back, and represent myself to the best of my ability. I sometimes worry, since everything I publish on the internet is part of the public record, but it makes me think twice about everything I say. That practice has made me a better communnicator.

But I'm still not a very good speller.

Depends what you consider "design". Personally, I think that a number of factors should be considered. SEO, Usability, Accessability.

One or all of these is usually negelected if you hire a web designer. Too many people with frontpage, dreamweaver, or an education from a technical school. On the bright side, it makes me much more valuable.

Now I want an iPhone even more, but I'm still too practical to spend that kind of money on a cellphone.

I posted this there, but I think it bears repeating.

What I would like to see is rather than a "bury" type button that takes away sphinns, A "lame" or whatever button that has it's own count. And the ability to see who sphunn and who lamed a particular article.

Especially with all the disagreement on certain topics, and the speculation that naturally comes with SEO topics. There may be times that one group disagrees with another on something, and this would make the process a lot more transparent than simply burying stories.

@DoshDosh

"I think zacharyfox suggested using a Reddit style voting system which subtracts votes instead, which is a good idea for those who disagree with it but don't want to get personal or voice/label their opinion."

Exactly the opposite. I suggest having "lame" (or whatever) as separate than sphunn, rather than an upvote / downvote system. And complete transparency. If we can see who likes things, we (as a community, not just the moderators and editors) should be able to see who dislikes them.

It could even create a new category "Controversial Topics" in addition to hot and new.
