Should we be so concerned with tracking keyword density? Is it still as relevant as it once was purported to be?

Inbound links, outbound link, anchor text, titles, keyword density, etc. is all crap when taken individually. Collectively they are all signals that are combined into a formula that makes sense out of all the crap.

Too many keywords you're keyword stuffing, not enough the page lacks relevance, just right and it ranks like crazy.

Besides, why would anyone give you the magic ratio if they knew it?

I sure wouldn't because that's some crap you can take to the bank.

For those who know what they are doing, Keyword Density is very important in Google for on-page SEO.  Of course, it is not the only factor.  How to measure keyword density is all over the map, let alone giving it a precise target range metric.

I don't ever bother with metrics. I just know good keyword density when I see it.

Google definitely favors keyword density over keyword repetition.  Those who insist upon bringing up keyword stuffing with keyword density obviously don't know what they are talking about.  Google's home page, for example, achieves high keyword density without keyword stuffing.  In fact, keyword stuffing and keyword density are pretty much oxymorons.

This is not to say of course that Googlebombing and other Black Hat techniques don't work faster or even better.

Don't give me that garbage, you know keyword stuffing when you see it.

I'm not talking 20 or 30 words even, I'm talking about those sites that got punted out of Google for stuffing tons of keywords at the bottom of the page, we've all seen it, they all get nailed eventually.

Don't give me that garbage.

We just had a keyword Stuffing Experiment recently on Sphinn.

"World's Greatest SEO."

Tons of Keyword stuffing and the site was not touched by Google. At least I filed a Spam report on it. And, still nothing happened to it.

If you want to lookat a well done web page with good Keyword Density, then look at Google's Home page.  All you people seem to be able to comprehend is keyword stuffing in the extreme and other black hat techniques.

Personally, I have never seen keyword stuffing except in the above example.

One page in a site is just a lark, probably not enough to trigger a penalty but they can penalize a page without penalizing an entire site so I wouldn't expect SeoMOZ to go POOF! anything soom over that silliness.

Most of the big offenders I knew were penalized severely and are now dead domains or I'd drop a few links.
