Gee, what a web developer needs to know is how Chrome responds to CSS differently from IE and FF. Now, can somebody please comment on stuff that webmasters might actually give a hoot about?
Can't seem to download Google's toolbar mainly to keep a note of page rankings, that is compatible with Chrome. I find that amusing.
Or am I missing someting? I mean, surely Google would release a browser that accomodates it's own creations?
Yeah, I'm waiting for that too. Google just opened up Chrome to 3rd-party apps, so I guess their own Toolbar won't be far behind...
I really think Opera should be included in this comparison.
Re: #10 - Firefox also uses the Google Safe Browsing API when you search. I believe they are identical in this respect. Agree with the other points though.
Agree with @erich though, would have been good to see where Opera fitted in here.
I think the biggest issue for us will be how Chrome treats CSS. From the early reports I have seen, it is doing this differently from FF. That is going to cause a real headache for developers. We already test in 4 browsers, now it will be 5 :(
Here are 10 more ;-) - http://sphinn.com/story/70279
Not a well thought out posting... Chrome's growing list of security problems are showing up daily: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/security_flaw_in_google_chrome.php
And the contention it was built from the ground up. So sez who????
Don't they all say that? Every car manufacturer similarly makes bald-ass claims about total redesigns and unparalleled excellence.
Stay out of the marketing biz, would you?
I knew someone would Sphinn a list about Chrome and rehash the basics that Google already published, amazing.
Here's some Google didn't tell you, the user agent in case you want to check your logs to see how fast Chrome is being adopted:
"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.13 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/0.2.149.27 Safari/525.13"
Chrome is really nice...I love the way they set up the address box..which also doubles as a search box..^^
The address box doubles as a search box in Firefox too, or hadn't you noticed?
@John -
"what a web developer needs to know is how Chrome responds to CSS differently from IE and FF."
If you paid attention it's the Safari Webkit so if you know how Safari responds to CSS you already know.
If you don't know how Safari responds, find a new vocation quick.
It looks faster when loading but firefox remains my defalt browser.
Is it me, or does anyone else think Google did themselves a disservice by releasing this before the kinks were ironed out? They had to know that the search engine marketing community would be among the first to "check it out" and the reviews I have read from reputable sources (and many other Sphinns) are less than rave.
@oldschool
I agree. Also it seems some of these "new" features are not quite as revolutionary as they suggest (or has been suggested for them by other blogs/reviews).
I don't think Google cares what the search engine marketing community thinks at this point as it's the other 99.999999% of the online community they're trying to attract and the timing was perfect to upstage MSIE 8 and the new Firefox 3.
In other words, it's the oldest trick in the book used often by Microsoft, announce and release beta early to create FUD in the marketplace.
I was all ready to give it a go, but it turns out Chrome Beta is only for WINDOWS! What a disappointment, considering it's based on Safari!
@Jamie
CodeWeavers have just released a port of Chromium for Mac and Linux users. I'll be giving it a go myself on Ubuntu today.
